WallyWorld2025: The ramblings and musings of a retired sportswriter/sports information director who is on the Road to Mortality. This could last 10-15 months or 10-15 years depending on the whims of leukemia and the skills of a couple of excellent medical teams. I am no Dan Jenkins, but I think most of it will be entertaining.
A Little Background:
I started out as a child…literally. Got my first job as a journalist at the St. Albans Messenger at the ripe old age of 16, went on to the Burlington Free Press at 19 and made a career change of sorts when I became Sports Information Director at St. Lawrence University in 1975. I stayed in that position until 2016 when I retired, but continued to do hockey color commentary (except when I made a two week vacation to the Caribbean in February).
I was fortunate enough, through either blind luck, well-honed skills or plain old longevity to win a few awards along my path to retirement: Vermont Sportswriter of the Year 1971; ECAC-SIDA Irving T. Marsh Award 1995; CoSIDA Warren Berg Award 2001; ECAC-SIDA Pete Nevins Award 2012; CoSIDA Hall of Fame 2013; CoSIDA Lifetime Achievement Award 2016 and the American Hockey Coaches Association Jim Fullerton Award 2017.
Brag over!
